Namma Bengaluru has its name derived from the place ‘benda-kaal-uru’, literally means, ‘town of boiled beans’. This eventually evolved into ‘Bengaluru’. The city of Bengaluru was established by Kempe Gowda – a feudal ruler under the Vijayanagara Empire, in 1537, as the capital of his erstwhile kingdom.
